Why You Need CRYOCHAPS K2F
Lower leg injuries in horses are a common occurrence. Horses are designed to be super quick and supple, balancing 500kg of bone and muscle on four legs. Humans have selectively bred the horse to become more agile, more expressive, more powerful, faster and stronger. However, their limbs do not always cope. Consequently, as any owner will know, injuries are commonplace.
Ligament and tendon injuries can now be diagnosed much more often due to better veterinary knowledge and diagnostic technology. Diagnosis often leads to time consuming rehabilitation.
Cryochaps K2F cooling wraps for horses have been designed with a focus on post-exercise recovery and injury prevention. They have been developed to mimic ice bath therapy. The general theory behind cold therapy is that the cold exposure helps to combat the micro trauma (small tears) in tissues and resultant soreness caused by intense or repetitive exercise.
The cold therapy constricts blood vessels, flushes waste products and reduces swelling and tissue breakdown. Subsequently, as the tissue warms and the blood flow increases, the healing process is jump-started. Cryochaps K2F ice boots for horses provide cold therapy and essential compression to be proactive against injury, or to help the healing process after injury.
Sizing Information
Cryochaps K2F ice boots should fit so that they cover all of the major tendons and ligaments from the knee or hock, right down to the fetlock. Currently, Cryochaps only come in one size (cob/full), which is designed to fit most horses from 14.2hh up.
Cryochaps K2F are available to fit the front or hind leg. To gauge whether Cryochaps are likely to fit your horse, you will need to take a couple of measurements of the front and hind cannon bones.
Firstly, measure the length of the cannon bone. Measure the side of the leg just under the bony projection of the knee or hock to the bottom of the curve of the fetlock.
Then measure the circumference of the cannon bone. Simply wrap a tape measure around the middle part of the cannon bone to measure the circumference.
Cryochaps K2F Medium (Front) ice boots are designed to fit a 24-27 cm long and 20-25 cm wide cannon bone. The Large (Hind) ice boots are designed to fit a 30-33 cm long and 23-29 cm wide cannon bone.
Approximate sizing guide:
- 14.2-15hh (Medium for all 4)
- 15.1-16.1hh (Medium/Front, Large/Hind)
- 16.2hh+ (Large for all 4)
